I’ve Still Got It

Saturday, December 10th, 2011

Even though I’ve been styling and dressing women for years, it’s still a thrill for my 23 year-old daughter to call me up and say, “Mom! I need your help for my photo shoot!”

Kara is a dancer and needed some new photos for her portfolio. We had a bizarre mother-daughter moment when we each (out of the blue) confessed that we loved Beyonce’s new 1960′s-inspired music video and thought that it would be the perfect inspiration for the shoot. Weird, inexplicable mother-daughter telepathy…

Anyway, I immediately got to work, pulling my A-Team together. Since Kara would be flying from her home in New York to Santa Fe  for the shoot, I knew I had to work some magic for the shoot to be hip enough for the New York scene. I enlisted Daniel Nadelbach, a renown Santa Fe-an photographer with an eye for high fashion; Joseph Charles, an extremely talented local makeup-artist; Willow Rose Adams, my amazing hair stylist; and Goler, the local and sophisticated retailer of shoes and clothing.

Everything was set and the shoot was so much fun. Thank you to Daniel, Joseph, Willow and Goler for providing fabulousness. Please enjoy a few of the pictures!

Eclectic Style

Monday, November 7th, 2011

Strolling down Guadalupe Street, I impulsively popped into Double Take, Santa Fe’s largest consignment store. I’ve been there before but never meandered through the whole of it. Not only is the store huge, but they sell such a variety of consigned goods, from home decor to cowboy boots. But did you know they have a wonderful vintage clothing boutique tucked away behind the western wear?? I hit the jackpot, you can’t make a mistake here! Amazing shoes, handbags, jewelry…truly a fashionista’s haven.

You may laugh at the pictures I’ve included in this blog: kitchy ovens and boots? But real style does not stop at fashion. Style crosses many parts of your life and incorporates past eras. My style has always been eclectic. For example, a fab 1950’s kitchen with a modern table or a new black dress with a vintage belt. It’s the mix that makes the style. It’s a delicate thing to do, but when it works it’s really powerful. Style is everywhere. It’s in your home, it’s on you, it’s who you are. I encourage you to go in, and buy something a little different that pulls your whole look together.

Buffalo Exchange

Friday, August 12th, 2011

Anyone having the summer doldrums, need a pick me up with my wardrobe feeling? Head on down to Buffalo Exchange, a hip vintage store in Albuquerque. For under $30, you can find something fun and new to spice up your summer look, like a fun pair of yellow patent leather pumps for $25 or a retro 80’s Madonna look.

Anyone remember the 80’s rock n roll group, Adam and the Ants? They made the military jacket famous before Michael Jackson did. By the way Michael’s jacket fetched a cool 1.8 million in auction. At Buffalo Exchange, the jackets are far less and they have fun 50’s swing dresses, jeans and even a leopard print skirt. It’s a nice treat for the fashionistas in all of us. I can’t wait to go back in the fall.
