“Intention is a force in the Universe and everything and everyone is connected to this invisible force.” Wayne Dyer

I was walking out of a restaurant on New Years Eve when up in the sky I saw the most beautiful meteorite shooting across the sky. It was bright green with a fiery gold and white tail. The energy from it was so powerful and moving that I knew this was the year I could accomplish anything.

So, this New Year’s I am going to focus on my intention instead of making resolutions. I believe that, when you openly speak or write about an intention, the universe hears it and says hummmm

“That is very clear. How can we assist her in her dreams? What synchronicities can we throw together than can show up unexpectedly to help her.” The clearer you are with an intention the stronger the vibration is.

Ok so here goes. My intentions for 2012 and beyond are….

#1 TO HELP CHILDREN LIVE A MORE PEACEFUL LIFE!

Through my Spiritually Savvy Kids book series and website, blog and social media (launching momentarily) I intend to give families the tools to help children lead a more peaceful life. I will help children understand that our thoughts have power, that everything is energy and that gratitude is the key that unlocks the heart. We experience joy when we can feel our feelings and let them go. And, of course, when we show love it comes right back to us. I intend to open a Children’s Conservatory for Peaceful Living, a vibrant center where kids can learn to meditate, breathe, paint, move, create gratitude journals, make visioning boards and express their feelings in a variety of ways. I can already see it done. I drew a design for the center in my journal last night.

#2 To help companies that have a desire to make the world a better place get their message out through social media. Every post or blog that I do for my clients will be done with integrity and intention and of course, style. Through social media a clear consistent message will be communicated to the people who want to hear it and support it. This can be everything from creating a successful local business to healthy living, spiritual awareness and helping people look and feel better.

#3 The third intention but certainly not the last is…. Drum roll please…to VIBRATE LOVE to everything and everyone I meet everyday!

OK Universe after several cosmic two by fours telling me that I was clearly moving in the wrong direction I am now ready to follow my heart. To live the life that I was brought here to live with love and gratitude for it all.

Even though I’ve been styling and dressing women for years, it’s still a thrill for my 23 year-old daughter to call me up and say, “Mom! I need your help for my photo shoot!”

Kara is a dancer and needed some new photos for her portfolio. We had a bizarre mother-daughter moment when we each (out of the blue) confessed that we loved Beyonce’s new 1960′s-inspired music video and thought that it would be the perfect inspiration for the shoot. Weird, inexplicable mother-daughter telepathy…

Anyway, I immediately got to work, pulling my A-Team together. Since Kara would be flying from her home in New York to Santa Fe for the shoot, I knew I had to work some magic for the shoot to be hip enough for the New York scene. I enlisted Daniel Nadelbach, a renown Santa Fe-an photographer with an eye for high fashion; Joseph Charles, an extremely talented local makeup-artist; Willow Rose Adams, my amazing hair stylist; and Goler, the local and sophisticated retailer of shoes and clothing.

Everything was set and the shoot was so much fun. Thank you to Daniel, Joseph, Willow and Goler for providing fabulousness. Please enjoy a few of the pictures!

Strolling down Guadalupe Street, I impulsively popped into Double Take, Santa Fe’s largest consignment store. I’ve been there before but never meandered through the whole of it. Not only is the store huge, but they sell such a variety of consigned goods, from home decor to cowboy boots. But did you know they have a wonderful vintage clothing boutique tucked away behind the western wear?? I hit the jackpot, you can’t make a mistake here! Amazing shoes, handbags, jewelry…truly a fashionista’s haven.

You may laugh at the pictures I’ve included in this blog: kitchy ovens and boots? But real style does not stop at fashion. Style crosses many parts of your life and incorporates past eras. My style has always been eclectic. For example, a fab 1950’s kitchen with a modern table or a new black dress with a vintage belt. It’s the mix that makes the style. It’s a delicate thing to do, but when it works it’s really powerful. Style is everywhere. It’s in your home, it’s on you, it’s who you are. I encourage you to go in, and buy something a little different that pulls your whole look together.

Maddie and I have something in common, or rather someone: Sherry Barnett, owner of Barks and Bubbles and Blush Boutique. I’ve been taking to Maddie to Barks and Bubbles since I moved to Santa Fe because Maddie and I both agree that their grooming and pet-sitting is fabulous. And when I found out that she owns a clothing store, I couldn’t wait to check it out.The first time I visited Blush at their new location in the DeVargas mall, I couldn’t believe my eyes! As I perused the store I kept thinking I’d wear this…and that…I’d wear all of these!

Blush has the basics from knit sweaters and flowing scarves to nylon pencil skirts and spandexy work-out clothes. But it was their collection of fitness fashion that really caught my attention. Their sports bras and tights come in bright basic colors, with wonderfully creative straps, turning an ordinary piece into a statement. There’s no need to sacrifice your inner-fashionista even while you’re at the gym. When I work out first thing in the morning I love the way I feel for the rest of the day. Feeling good and healthy with positive energy is what makes us beautiful.

“Although we carry a lot of younger items, everything can be paired in such a way as to fit more age groups, to have a more youthful or sophisticated style” said Amanda, Sherry’s soon-to-be daughter in-law and employee at Blush. “We also sell a lot of the brands that magazines advertise as a ‘get the look for less’ piece.” True—take for example, a classic tee. It looks like a normal shirt, except that sleeves are connected with chiffon, giving this flowy shirt just a touch of detail to make it unique and pretty. Blush also has a great collection of elegant knit sweaters that are a must-have for layering.

Walking toward the door, of the customers in the store called out, “I’ll keep coming back!”

And so will I!

Lately, I’ve been going fashion-crazy over Goler Shoes on Palace Avenue. Those ladies have such a great eye. You can’t walk in the store without immediately coveting 20 pairs of shoes. And they have great clothes (wow).

Apparently real style runs in families. Last week Chico Goler showed his artistic eye when he curated a wonderful opening for local Santa Fe-an artist Sergio Moyano.

Sergio’s art is stunning. Large canvases lined the interior of El Museo, all filled with beautiful and abstract explosions of paint. The colors and energy were so strong and forceful that they literally grabbed me and pulled me in.

You have to see these works so stop by El Museo in the Railyard before the 16th to check them out. Great job Chico! Thank you for curating this show and re-introducing Sergio to Santa Fe!

I wish I could bottle this feeling. You know the feeling when everything is working—you’re vibrating joy and everything feels right in the world. I had this feeling this morning when I started my walk. As soon as I heard the birds chirping I was taken back to a time when I visited my grandmother’s house in Albany, NY. There the birds greeted me each morning and her home vibrated love, safety and happiness. Hmmm, I was thinking this morning, “If I could bottle this feeling would you buy it?”

Back in the 80s, my first husband nicknamed me “Instant Coffee.” I was then in the high-speed, fast-paced world of fashion buying at Barney’s, jet-setting everywhere, running endlessly to find the newest and latest trends. My department had to be the best of the best. I loved it and it suited me because I thrive on change and staying ahead of the pack. Now, in Santa Fe, I’m still doing it. With my Real Style Blog, I’m always on the look-out for the most innovative style around, and in Santa Fe there’s plenty of it. It’s kind of in the air — a vibration of authentic style. Recently I’ve launched a Facebook and Twitter business — and here I am again in another high-speed chase that’s always changing. I just love this! Working with people, finding their voice, and using Facebook and Twitter to market their brand is better than instant coffee—it’s instant gratification, instant fun, and instant results. I can’t deny it, “Instant Coffee” is what I will always be.

Walking is my morning meditation. Every morning I walk to the Railyard, a new and award-winning park in Santa Fe adjacent to the old railroad line. The old railyard is incorporated into the simple wood and metal eco-friendly design of the park. As part of the design, flowers in the landscape are planted in large single groups of colors. This appeals to me both aesthetically and spiritually. Colors have souls and I felt that especially today. Orange feels vibrant and alive, purple soulful, and yellow happy. Whenever I connect with a color I see, I try to carry its energy with me throughout the day. What color are you today?

Anyone having the summer doldrums, need a pick me up with my wardrobe feeling? Head on down to Buffalo Exchange, a hip vintage store in Albuquerque. For under $30, you can find something fun and new to spice up your summer look, like a fun pair of yellow patent leather pumps for $25 or a retro 80’s Madonna look.

Anyone remember the 80’s rock n roll group, Adam and the Ants? They made the military jacket famous before Michael Jackson did. By the way Michael’s jacket fetched a cool 1.8 million in auction. At Buffalo Exchange, the jackets are far less and they have fun 50’s swing dresses, jeans and even a leopard print skirt. It’s a nice treat for the fashionistas in all of us. I can’t wait to go back in the fall.

Lisl Dennis just absolutely exudes Real Style in Santa Fe. She’s had a long and illustrious career as a travel photographer and photojournalist. She’s led photo safaris all over the world, guiding and teaching wherever she goes. Her style runs on confidence. And of course like everyone you meet in Santa Fe, she’s an author. I was leafing through one of my favorite coffee-table books, Beyond Adobe Walls, one I used to sell at my stores, when I noticed her picture on the back page. I couldn’t believe the synchronicity of it all. You can see her incredible style in the headshot below, wearing a scarf from her Hermes collection of 40 or so. Of course only the modern designs from Paris, not the fuddle old horse and bridle ones. The other photo I took running into her at Wolf Creek last Spring. I absolutely loved the colorful snowboarding pants and chartreuse jacket. There I was in my monochrome black ski outfit, envious of her vibrant look on the slopes. Check out her super-stylish website and blog at http://www.storyshards.info/
